Buyer - Menswear

Division: Menswear

Level: Middle Management 

Location: London Support Centre, Regents Place, NW1 3FG.


This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the biggest departments in menswear and will be a great next step in the career for an existing buyer or experienced junior buyer who is keen to drive the commercial trend of a well known brand at Debenhams!


You will be responsible for the overall Buying and Commercial Plan of a category within our menswear department with the goal of meeting/exceeding sales, profit and margin targets.  We are looking for a commercial buyer who will be accountable for maintaining a singular focus on the product and customer by incorporating competitive intelligence, customer insight, and business analysis


What you will be doing…

  • Accountable for anticipating and meeting the product requirements of the customer, by creating a balanced and innovative range, through price point and quality
  • Conduct brand/product analysis for in-house, concession, and international brands (where relevant) to contribute to the divisional strategic product plans
  • Maintain commercial knowledge and understanding of industry trend insights
  • Review and influence all combined channel, market and brand financial plans
  • Negotiation of all products through maintaining a close working relationship with key suppliers and stakeholders including range building, sample reviews and finalizing quantities by line
  • Partner with Planning teams to develop strategies to maximise business opportunities, across all channels and markets
  • Accountable for the assortment and buy planning to deliver the right balance of newness and depth of buy
  • Use commercial understanding to manage product and range development process
  • Establish/ drive departmental sourcing strategy supported by their respective partners
  • Determine purchase commitments based on needs by market and channel
  • Use commercial acumen to finalise and approve cost pricing for ranges
  • Review seasonal analysis with Planners ensuring commerciality, and make recommendations for future seasons
